Understanding Genetics

Although we may think of our genes as fixed and unchangeable, the story is more complex. Humans evolved with genetic variations that helped them survive in different environments, from cold climates to food scarcity. Today, those same genetic traits may influence how we respond to diet, stress, or physical activity. While we cannot change our DNA, we now know that lifestyle choices can affect how genes are expressed. This field, known as epigenetics, is helping researchers understand how environment and behavior interact with biology. In many ways, genetics provides the blueprint, but our daily habits help determine how that blueprint is put into action.

Affects Disease Risk - But Not Destiny

Genetics may increase susceptibility to conditions like heart disease, obesity, or some cancers. However, healthy habits, regular screenings, and early intervention can dramatically reduce the actual risk.

Shapes Stress Responses and Mental Health

Some individuals are genetically more sensitive to stress or emotional stimuli. Understanding these traits can help guide personalized strategies for coping, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.
